AOL tries to create the impression of on-line safety--but numerous news stories seem to suggest a different situation.

One AOL Watch reader weighs in with their own story...

Here's a true story from my time on AOL. A kid came into a chat room using a program that scrolled racist and obscene saying down the screens, making it nearly impossible to type in the room. Someone in the room called a guide, and said so. A few minutes later, the kid left.

Thirty minutes later, a guide showed up. I commented "Well, I see one decided to stop eating donuts and show up in a chat room." I was gagged for an hour, booted offline, and given a formal TOS report (removed after nearly two weeks of appealing it). The charge was Room Disruption.
