Online Cris is an in-house tool AOL uses to maintain their customers' account information. Hackers accessed it in 1995, according to a number of sources...The file CRIS1.GIF depicts a screen-shot of one customer's record -- in this case, a woman named Jennifer Watson. Her AOL profile lists her current project as a book called "The AOL Companion" -- and her customer information was apparently an attractive target for hackers.
When e-mailed at the address in the screen-shot, Jennifer Watson did not respond--but the image suggests that hackers had access to her customer record, including daytime and evening phone numbers and all her screen names (including one authorized to acce ss AOL's "Virtual Leaders Academy".) Presumably, this meant they could as easily access other customer records...
"Download this shit" read the image's description. But personal information was apparently accessed -- and displayed -- by the hackers -- so in the image below sensitive information has been blocked out.
